While many in Airdrie were surprised to wake up to snow today (October 2nd), Airdrie's roads department was well prepared for the event.

"We brought in some staff early, 2 o clock [am] to start working on the roads," says Team Lead for the Roads Department Mike Avramenko, "we have a couple of our graters out there as well assisting with the trucks trying to team plow."

Avramenko mentioned that 24/7 service for snow clearing wasn't scheduled to start until October 19th, but crews were ready.

Plows and sanders are still making their way through the priority roads as the snow continues to fall.

"Priority one and our twos," says Avramenko, "Anytime it continues to snow like this, trucks will be going around and around."

Avramenko says that this sudden snowfall won't affect their snow-clearing budget for 2018 unless more consistent snowfalls come in the next week or so.

More details on the snow clearing and priority roads can be found on the City of Airdrie website
