New traffic signals along Eighth Street are gradually coming to life.

The lights at Coopers Link and at Hillcrest Way were activated today (February 17), while the signals at 40th Avenue and at Coopers Boulevard will continue to be delayed.

Bob Neale, Engineering Services Team Leader with the City of Airdrie, said that delays getting lights operational happen sometimes.

"Through the process of inspections, occasionally there is something that's not quite right, whether it's in the hardware electronics itself, or in the software programming."

Neale explained that the city coordinates with the contractor and the engineering consultants in order to get the lights running. Occasionally, getting the lights running is out of the city's hands.

"Finally, I'd like to just point out that we are reliant on a third party for energization, like for the electrical connection to it. So these things take some time and coordination to put into place.

The lights were originally scheduled to go live on February 15. Neale says the lights at 40th Avenue should be working by February 21-22, while the lights at Coopers Boulevard might need a couple more weeks to be readied.
