Members of the Airdrie 4H Club showed their commitment to the community with a huge donation to a local organization.

The club recently gave $10,000 to the Airdrie Health Foundation to help fund new equipment for the Urgent Care Centre.

Club leader Wendy Konshuck explains how they raised that much.

"Each club within the Calgary region gets the opportunity to raise either a charity lamb or charity steer. Each species is somehow sold and money is raised."

The club chose a lamb and sold raffle tickets to raise the funds. When it came to which local cause would receive the money, Konshuck says the Health Foundation was a unanimous choice.

"The members felt that the Health Foundation was something the community, not only our members would use, but everybody in the community would benefit from having. That's why we ended up with the Health Foundation."

On top of the hours that took place raising the lamb and selling tickets, Konshuck says local businesses such as Cervus and UFA supported the club greatly.

As a former 4H member herself, Konshuck says it's an see her current members giving back to their community.

"By having them have these opportunities and think outside the box and how they're going to raise this amount of money. It just goes to show you the power of our young people and the members in our community."
