A long awaited road project is drawing closer to completion.

Bob Neale, Capital Projects and Infrastructure Manager with the City of Airdrie, gave an update on the 40th Avenue West project, which will eventually link Reynolds Gate with Main Street.

"The bridge has been completed. Right now we've got a contractor in paving operations, which will connect Reynolds Gate through to the east side of the CPR track."

Neale said the City will work with the developer in the area East of the track to pave the remainder of the road, which will complete the connection to Main Street.

"For the City forces, we are intending to be complete by mid-September. The balance of the work by the developer is hopefully completed by the end of September."

Neale said it's likely that traffic will start to use the road sometime in that September time frame.

Once the road is open, it should alleviate traffic concerns on a nearby roadway.

"The 40th Avenue West project, once it's open, will have an an immediate impact on Yankee Valley Boulevard as well. I think everyone has been having issues at Main Street and Yankee Valley Boulevard, so that will help that intersection quite a bit."
