The Airdrie RCMP have located and arrested a male after a dangerous driving incident that occurred on September 22nd.

 

On September 22nd just after 10 pm, a member of the Airdrie RCMP attempted to stop a suspected impaired driver after observing him driving erratically, almost colliding with another vehicle on highway 2.

The vehicle fled RCMP at a high rate of speed travelling southbound on highway two before crossing the median and intentionally driving into oncoming traffic.

Cpl. Gina Slaney says thankfully no one was injured.

"Nobody was injured thankfully, but he was travelling into oncoming traffic and thankfully there was no tragic end to that"

The vehicle was driving head-on into traffic for nearly two kilometres before driving through a fence and onto Range Road 293. The driver had tried to get back onto the highway but was involved in a minor collision with a police vehicle who the blocked the driver from regaining access to the highway. 

The driver fled on foot but was arrested by RCMP the following morning after approaching a nearby home for assistance. 

"The next morning we received a 911 call from a lady in the rural area who said a male had shown up at her front door and was asking for help when officers attended they identified the man as the driver who fled the night before."

28-year-old Micheal Renz is facing the following charges. 

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession Of Stolen Property and Obstruction And Breaching His Recognizance.

Renz is expected to be in Airdrie Provincial Court on September 27th.
