It wasn’t the result they were hoping for but the Airdrie Xtreme skated away with a silver medal following a nailbiting game yesterday (April 1st).

The Xtreme faced off with the BC Champion Seafair Islanders in the Gold Medal game, after the Islanders won their round-robin game 3-1.

Neither team could score in the first two periods, leaving it at 0-0 heading into the third.

Craig Armstrong would finally net the first goal of the game with assists from Ty Mueller and Shaw Cathcart.

Despite being heavily outshot, the Islanders eventually got the tying goal with less than two minutes left, which meant that, once again, the Xtreme were headed to overtime in a championship game.

It wasn’t until the second overtime that the winning goal was finally scored, but it was the Islanders who put it up.

Despite the loss, Craig Armstrong was named MVP of the game as he and the rest of the team settled for a silver medal.

The Xtreme came into the championships with one of their best seasons to date, winning their division, the South Region and the AMBHL title.

The last time the Xtreme were in the Western Bantam Championships was when they won the Gold Medal in 2009.
