Going into last night's (November 30) game the Airdrie Thunder were 21 and 1 in the Heritage Junior Hockey League this season while the Strathmore Wheatland Kings had an 11 - 8 and 1 mark.

You might expect that would mean another big win for the Thunder but the Kings weren't going down without a fight.

In the end, the Thunder did take the game for their 22nd win of the season, but it was much closer than perhaps anyone expected.  Airdrie got a goal from Brett LeGrandeur late in the second period that turned out the be the game winner in a 3 - 2 victory over Strathmore.

Tristan Paquette and Jason Wenzel also scored for the Thunder.

Tonight Airdrie hits the road for Red Deer where they'll face the second place team in the Northern Division, the Vipers who are 14 - 5 and 1 this season.

The puck drops at 8:00 pm.

In the first game of a weekend home and home series, the Cochrane Generals scored three third period goals to down the Flyers 5 - 2 in High River.  The teams meet again tonight at 7:45 pm in the Cochrane Arena.

Also on tonight's HJHL schedule, the Mountainview Colts entertain the Stettler Lightning at 8:00 pm in the Didsbury Recreation Complex.
