Airdrie’s Jake Vold won Day 2 of the Canadian Finals Rodeo and broke a record that many thought was untouchable.

Vold scored a 90.25 in his second run at the Bareback Riding competition, breaking the previous record of 90.

That was set by Kyle Bowers at the 2003 Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton.

Vold said part of the success in that record breaking performance was because of the horse he rode, Virgil.

“I’ve had huge success on that horse. He’s been phenomenal for my career. You’re excited and nervous everytime you see your name beside his, that’s for sure.”

Vold still leads the overall score for the Bareback competition as Day 3 of the rodeo gets underway tonight in Red Deer.
