If Jordan McConnell can keep up the pace he established on opening night for the Airdrie Thunder, he's going to re-write every scoring record in the Heritage Junior Hockey League this season.

Of course, expecting eight points a night out of McConnell might be a bit unrealistic, but he'll take it for at least one night.

McConnell scored four times and added four assists as the Thunder crushed the Stettler Lightning 13 - 2 in their HJHL opener for the year at the Ron Ebbesen Arena last night.

Captain Jacob McDonald added a hat-trick in the onslaught while veteran Rylan Plante-Crough had a goal as part of a six-point night and newcomer Cooper Page lit the lamp once and had five points in the blowout victory.

Zachary Dubois opened the floodgates 2:10 into the game with his first of two markers on the night.   Benjamin Orde and Brett Legrandeur also scored for Airdrie who outshot the short-staffed Stettler club 70 - 26.

The Thunder are right back at it tonight when they head south the Coaldale for an 8:00 pm game against the Copperheads.

Also tonight, the Mountainview Colts from Didsbury get their season started at home when they entertain the High River Flyers.  Game time in the Didsbury Rec Complex is 8:00 pm.
