Is there any better way to end a season? The HJHL Champions, the Airdrie Techmation Thunder, are now the Junior B Provincial Champions as well.

Today at 2 in the afternoon, the Thunder hit the ice against a team that could possibly be the greatest challenge they have had to face, the Wainwright Bisons.

Coming into the game, the Bisons also were undefeated in the provincial tournament and only loss a total of four games during their entire season and were the defending champions.

The game was close. The Thunder led into the third 2-1 and had a healthy shot advantage. But, after a boarding penalty on the Thunder and two powerplay goals from the Bisons, the outlook looked bleak for the Thunder.

However, with less than five minutes left in the third period, Brayden Dunn tied the game to push it into overtime. Both Bisons and Thunder fans were on the edge of their seats, waiting for another possibly long, tense period of hockey action.

Dunn, however, had other plans.

About thirty seconds into the first period of overtime, Dunn buried one into the back of the net in a play that could only be described as outstanding.

The Thunder are now the Provincial Junior B Champions.

Jordan McConnell, HJHL leading scorer said winning provincials felt incredible

"It feels amazing, we worked really hard for this all year. We knew we had a good team, but we really had to work for this one. It feels awesome."

McConnell said that in the third they felt pushed, but Dunn came through for them.

"We got a little bit of adversity. We didn't have too much of it this year. We really dealt with it well. Dunner had a huge goal there and then he had the big one in overtime as well."

McConnel said that the overtime win was just another feather in their cap.

"It was pretty awesome. We didn't have too many of those this year, so it felt really good."
