Three local fighters took on big opponents in the Trial by Fire 6.

The first local fighter to hit the mat was Brandon Tulk when he took on Tyler Gaudon.

Luis Cofre owner of the Airdrie Martial Arts Centre said Tulk had a bit of slow start but picked up the pace.

"He came out a little slow and lost round one, he started to make a comeback in round two and then in the third he really established himself as a solid striker"

Tulk lost the fight but wants to get back into the ring as soon as possible.

The second fight took place between local fighter William Bigbull and Mike Marchon. The fight ended in a draw.

"He (Bigbull) probably should have won that fight, he controlled all three rounds," said Cofre.

Bigbull has been training with Cofre for about five years and comes from a fighting family.

The last fight took place between Cofre's most decorated fighter Austin Rodrigues and a title holder from Manitoba, Jules Beardy.

Rodrigues won the fight using all of his limbs and throwing spinning elbows. Rodrigues got backed into the corner in round one, he came out and started finding his range and began to dominate round three, four and five.

"It was some fantastic Maui Thai, with a very well strategized plan to get the victory."
