It was a night Airdrie's Jake Neighbours won't soon forget in his rookie year in the Western Hockey League.

Last night (April 6) Neighbours was named the game's first star as his Edmonton Oil Kings edged the Calgary Hitmen 3 - 2 in overtime in the first game of their second-round playoff series in Edmonton.

Seven minutes into he third period, the Hitmen took a 2 - 0 lead.  It looked as though they would hold on for the victory.  With just over four minutes left in the third, the Oil Kings broke through to make it 2 - 1 with time running out.  That's when Neighbours went to work.

With just 17 seconds left to play, Neighbours knotted things up at 2 - 2 sending the contest to extra time.  Neighbours notched his second goal of the game 3:20 in the extra frame to give the Oil Kings the win and a 1 - 0 lead in the series.

The goals were Neighbours first two of the playoffs.  The two teams meet for game two this afternoon at 5:00 pm in Edmonton.

Another Airdrie player will try to help his team draw even in their series.  Gary Haden and the Saskatoon Blades are in Prince Albert tonight trailing the Raiders one game to none.
