Three more games are on tap today (May 12) in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League's showcase weekend in Airdrie.

The Rockyview Junior Ladies Silvertips are one of the local teams taking part and Assistant Coach Todd Betterton says the team, which sports a one and two record this season, is beginning to gel under Head Coach Jordie Thomson and is getting stronger with each game played.

"The girls are very coachable and they're athletic and strong so I think we're just going to get better and better as the season moves on."

Betterton believes the system that first-year coach Thomson has put in place is helping the team both offensively and defensively.

During today's lacrosse showcase game, the 'Tips will take on the 14-time league champion Sherwood Park Titans.  Betterton says it will be tough to upset Sherwood Park but he truly believes his team can compete with the Titans.

"We know they're tough.  What's great is some of our rookies don't know how tough they are.  The great thing about Jordie, the head coach, her systems allow us to be structured, both offensively, defensively and in transition. We're just going to keep working on that and hopefully one of our starting goalies is really hot and we can make a game of this thing."

Betterton says the Silvertips are using the showcase weekend to try to attract more participants to the game.  He says, "Lacrosse, for those of us who play and are involved in the game, we know it's just the greatest sport on two feet.  We're trying to showcase some of the talent.  When we look at the ladies program, we want the younger groups, the pee-wees, and the bantams and the midget girls to see those girls play and aspire to be on that team at some point in their lacrosse career."

The game gets underway at 1:30 pm.

At 4:00 pm, the Senior Ladies Rockyview Attack take to the floor for a game with the Red Deer Rage.  The final game of the day goes at 8:00 pm when the Senior "B" Rockyview Knights take on the Calgary Mountaineers.

The showcase weekend wraps up with three more games tomorrow.  All games go in the Plainsman Arena in Airdrie.
