The Airdrie Irish are looking for big things this year in the Alberta Football League and this afternoon (June 2) they start looking at home.

The Irish have their home opener on Genesis Field this afternoon against the Calgary Wolfpack.  Team President and General Manager Matt Squires raves that it should be a great contest.

"When the Airdrie Irish started a lot of the guys that started with the team had come from the Calgary Wolfpack so there is a little bit of a rivalry there.  It's going to be a fun game to watch."

Squires says the calibre of ball in the AFL is tremendous.  "It's good for the kids to come out and see some really quality football.  I could probably name half a dozen guys that have CFL experience and another dozen or so that have university experience.  It's definitely quality football."

Kickoff goes at 1:00 pm.
