To say it was an impressive opening weekend for the Airdrie Thunder as a team, and for two players in particular, would be an understatement.

The Thunder dominated their Heritage Junior Hockey League opposition in two opening weekend wins with Jordan McConnell and Rylan Plante-Crough leading the way on the scoresheet.

Last night in Coaldale, McConnell and Plante-Crough each had six point nights with three goals and three assists each as the Thunder crushed the Copperheads 10 - 3.

That lopsided win went along with a 13 - 2 victory on Friday night in their season opener against the Stettler Lightning.  McConnell had eight points in that one and Plante-Crough chipped in six points making a 26 point combined weekend for the pair.

Brett Legrandeur, Jason Wenzel, Tyler McCarry and Kirkland Spencer scored the other goals last night for the Thunder who start a year 2 and 0 for the second straight time.

Airdrie has a pair of home games next weekend.  On Friday night they'll entertain the Blackfalds Wranglers while on Saturday they entertain the High River Flyers.

In another game last night, the Mountainview Colts successfully opened the HJHL season in Didsbury by dumping the Flyers 5 - 2.
