The second game turned out to be a whole lot closer than the first one but the Cochrane Generals still managed to prevail over the High River Flyers and will now advance to the second round of Heritage Junior Hockey League playoff action.

After an 11 - 2 shellacking on Thursday night, the Gens got by the Flyers 3 - 1 in High River last night (February 15), scoring their third goal into an empty net.  The win gave Cochrane a two games to none win in the best of three.

They'll now face the Okotoks Bisons in a best of seven series.  The Bisons finished second in the Southern Division and earned a first-round bye. The start date for that series hasn't been determined yet.

In the other second-round series in the South, the first place Coaldale Copperheads will square off against the Medicine Hat Cubs who knocked off the Strathmore Wheatland Kings in two games in the first round.

The Airdrie Thunder still don't know who they'll play in the second round and won't until Mountainview plays Ponoka in game two their series tonight.  The Colts won game one and can advance with a win tonight.

Should the Colts win the series, they'll face the Red Deer Vipers in the next round and the Thunder will play the Blackfalds Wranglers who eliminated Stettler in straight games.  If Ponoka comes back and takes the series from the Colts, Airdrie would take on the Stampeders while Okotoks would play Blackfalds.
