The first performance of the Airdrie Pro Rodeo went last night (June 28) at the rodeo grounds located 10 km west of Airdrie on Highway 567 and some great rides and good times were turned in.

In the rough stock events, Ty Taypotat from Regina, Saskatchewan took the lead in bareback by turning in a ride of 88 points.  Dawson Hay from Wildwood, Alberta moved out front in saddle bronc with 88.5 points.  The bull riding saw two cowboys climb to the top of the leaderboard.  Jodan Hansen from Ponoka, Alberta and Trey Kimzey of Strong City, Oklahoma both scored 86.5 points.

The timed events saw some quick times.  The tie-down roping leader is Martin Cooper of Alma, Kansas who came through with a fast run of 8.1 seconds.  The steer wrestling lead was assumed by Nick Guy from Parker, Colorado who took just 3.8 seconds to throw his steer.  A cowgirl with a very familiar name to rodeo fans took the lead in barrel racing.  Sydney Daines of the famous Innisfail, Alberta family made her run in 15.509 seconds.  First place in last night's team roping went to Kolton Schmidt of Barrhead, Alberta and Jeremy Buhler of Arrowwood, Alberta with a 5.1-second run.

The novice saddle bronc riding leader is Lachlan Sheppard of Snyder, Texas with a mark of 69 points.  There were no qualified rides in the novice bareback event.
