It was a beautiful showing of talent during playoff season that has propelled this local team to provincials.

The Airdrie Female Atom Lightning will be heading to Medicine Hat for provincials.

Head Coach, Andy Coates says it was a long journey to get them to this point.

"We have two different types of playoffs, we have the RMFHL playoffs which is our league and then the provincials playdowns which are played amongst teams in our zone. Right now we have secured our a position in provincials by winning three series, one against the team from Brooks, Olds and Medicine Hat who is hosting provincials this year."

A few teams have already secured provincial slots, however, the final provincial teams attending will be decided by March 3rd.

"We know some of the teams like the West Central Wild Cats, a team from Red Deer and the host Medicine Hat."

The format will consist of four teams in a round-robin format on either side with a semi-final and final.

The Team went to provincials last year but unfortunately did not win it but as Coates says its good motivation to win this year.

"I think it's going to be interesting this year with eight of our players coming back to the team from the last team".

According to Coates, his team gets contributions from all players on all aspects of the games and he is beyond proud of his team.
