Football Alberta has selected the players for the 2019 U18 Football Alberta’s U18 Provincial Team that will compete in the Football Canada Cup this July in Ontario.

Two Cochrane players have made the roster this year. Defensive Back Benjamin Dobson and Receiver Dawson Gladue.

The players were chosen from an original group of 380, which were whittled down to 130. The final 130 competed for one of 40 spots on the team.

Tim Enger, the executive director of Football Alberta said it's an impressive feat to make it onto that final roster.

“It’s not easy to make. There’s 120 high schools in the province and a lot of them play good ball and it’s a large selection we have, which is a great problem to have,” explained Enger. “If you find yourself still standing at the end of the line, you’re a pretty special player.”

Enger credited the football programs in Cochrane for producing outstanding talent.

“Kudos to the Cochrane program, I think this is probably the umpteenth year in a row they’ve put a player on it,” he said. “Sometimes some of the rural programs get a little lost in the shuffle, but Cochrane always seems to come up with couple guys that are provincial caliber and that really speaks to the program in Cochrane.”

Team Alberta will be travelling to Kingston, Ontario in July to play in the Canada Cup. Last year they went to the final game-winning silver after a tough loss to the Saskatchewan team.
