Two games were played yesterday (September 21) in the Rocky View High School Football League and one of them was a record breaker.

The Cochrane Cobras defeated the Chestermere Lakers 55 - 14, thereby establishing a new Alberta record for most consecutive wins by a high school football team.

The victory was the 40th straight for the Cobras, bettering the old mark of 39 that they tied last week and was originally set by the 1997 - 1999 Raymond Comets.

Next Saturday the Cobras will go after win number 41 when they visit Airdrie to take on the George McDougall Mustangs.  Coincidentally, the Mustangs are the last team to have beaten Cochrane in October of 2014.  Both Cochrane and George Mac are undefeated this season at 3 and 0.

In yesterday's other game, the Bert Church Chargers suffered their second straight loss, falling 17 - 0 to the Springbank Phoenix.

Despite the loss, the Chargers played a strong defensive game with Dante Rea grabbing a pair of interceptions and Colton Cannon picking off one Springbank pass.

Next up for the Chargers is an exhibition game in Lethbridge next weekend.
