Likely some disappointing news for CFL fans as the league has postponed the start of the 2020 season.

The CFL season was scheduled to start June 11, but the kickoff of the season is being pushed back to the beginning of July due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The league notes there are some cities, like Calgary, who have indicated they will not allow sporting events or other public events to take place through the end of June. Toronto also has a ban on community events, but at this time that excludes professional sporting events.

Rookie camps had been scheduled to begin May 13 with full CFL training camps to follow on May 17, but the CFL announced those were being postponed just last week.

Training camps still have not been rescheduled with CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie having said the league is in the hands of public health officials and further decisions will be made in accordance with health regulations.

The later start date for the season would mean fewer games in order for the Grey Cup to still be held in Regina on November 22, 2020.
