Zach Boychuk of Airdrie didn't take long to have his presence felt for Team Canada at the Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland.

Boychuk scored on a deflection off his skate just over five minutes into the first period to open the scoring for Canada as they went on to a 2 - 1 victory over the host team, HC Davos.

Boychuk is currently playing for Bern in the Swiss League after he was placed on waivers earlier in the season by HC Severstal of the KHL in Russie.

Canada has today off and will return to the ice tomorrow to face the Nurnberg Ice Tigers from Germany.

The Spengler Cup is considered the world's oldest annual tournament.
