The Canadian roster for the 2018 Spengler cup has been released and it includes a local player.

Airdrie's Zach Boychuk was named to the roster.  It's the second year in a row that Boychuk has been on the Canadian team.  He won gold with them in 2017.   Canada will be looking to win the tournament for the fourth consecutive time.

Boychuck won't have to travel far for the tournament in Davos, Switzerland.  He's been playing with Bern in the Swiss League.  Earlier this season, Boychuk was placed on waivers by HC Severstal of the KHL.

Boychuk was a former NHL first rounder for the Carolina Hurricanes.  Other ex-NHL players named to the Canadian roster include former Vancouver Canuck defenceman Kevin Bieksa, former Ottawa Senator Patrick Wiercioch, and former Toronto Maple Leafs Daniel Winnick and Dominic Moore.

Canada opens the six-team tournament on December 26th when they face the host team HC Davos.
