On the final day of the Alberta Midget Hockey League regular season, all the Airdrie Bisons could do was sit and watch as two teams passed them by and knocked them out of a playoff position.

Heading into yesterday's (February 17) action the Bisons were clinging to sixth place in the league's Chrysler Division, only a single point ahead of both the Calgary Flames and Okotoks Oilers.  The Bisons had played their final game the day before but the Flames and Oilers still had one more game left.

Unfortunately for the Bisons, both teams won yesterday with the Flames scoring a 7 - 4 victory over the Calgary Royals and the Oilers getting by the Red Deer Chiefs 3 - 2.

The Flames and Oilers finished with 36 points for the season compared with 35 for the Bisons.  The outcome turned out to not be great for Okotoks either as the Flames get the final playoff berth by virtue of having one more win on the year.

The Bisons end up with a winning record at 16 - 15 and 3, but that fact is likely very little consolation to the team who put in a season of hard work in the AMHL.
