All season long, Airdrie hockey fans have been treated to all-star calibre hockey by the Airdrie Thunder and now they get to experience more of it by witnessing the real thing.

Airdrie has been selected to host the 2019 Heritage Junior Hockey League All-Star Game on January 6th at 1:30 pm.  The game will be played in the Ron Ebbesen Arena and five members of the Thunder will be in the North All-Star lineup.

Goaltender Ryan Simpson, defencemen Jason Wenzel and Kirkland Spencer and forwards Jordan McConnell and Rylan Plante-Crough will suit up for the team which will be led by Airdrie Head Coach Derek Stamp and his staff.

Spencer says it's an honour to be named to the team since a lot of Thunder players could have been named to the squad with their impressive 25 and 2 record this season.

"Pretty much everybody on this team could be an all-star.  We have a lot of talent on the team so it's definitely an honour," explains Spencer.

Stamp and his coaching staff will be tasked with putting together forward lines and defensive pairings comprised of the top talent from the Northern Division's seven teams.

There's still some hockey to be played before the all-star contest starting with a game on Friday night when the Thunder entertain the Ponoka Stampeders.

The puck drops at 8:00 pm at Ron Ebbesen.
