Saturday afternoon the Airdrie Lightning Tier 4A Bantam Hockey Club faced off in an international contest against a team from Croatia in a game which showcased the true spirit of hockey.

The Lightning handily won the game against KHL Mladost of Croatia by a score of 9 - 3, but the result was of lesser importance to the joy of the game.

Lightning Manager Lisa Etty said everyone was a winner on an amazing day which started with a meet and greet lunch with both teams.

The players and coaching staffs of the two clubs exchanged gifts.  Before the game started, the national anthems of both teams were played.  The pre-game ceremonies also featured little brother flag bearers.

The fans who turned out for the game included Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown.  Etty says it was an amazing experience for everyone involved.
