A big day for Airdrie this Sunday (January 6) in the Heritage Junior Hockey League.

Airdrie has been selected to host the 2019 Heritage Junior Hockey League's All-Star game at the Ron Ebbesen Arena and it's now just two days away.

Five players of the Airdrie Techmation Thunder were chosen to the HJHL All-Star team that will be playing on Sunday afternoon.

The Thunder's head coach Derek Stamp and his staff will lead the Northern Division against top players from the Southern Division. The five local players named to the all-star team are Thunder goaltender Ryan Simpson, defencemen Jason Wenzel and Kirkland Spencer and forwards Jordan McConnell and Rylan Plante-Crough.

Coach Stamp says he's excited about Airdrie hosting the all-star game.

"I think it's great for Airdrie to host the game," says Stamp. "Our ownership group has worked hard over the past few seasons in continually putting a competitive team on the ice and they will do a great job hosting this event for the HJHL.

Come out on Sunday and join the community in supporting the all-star game at the Ron Ebbesen Arena. Puck drops at 1:30 p.m.
