The Earthbox is the perfect solution for urban gardeners.

It gives people living in condos or apartment buildings the opportunity to grow their own vegetables and herbs

An EarthBox container gardening system consists of a three-foot long, wheeled growing box and soilless potting mix.

EarthBoxes work outdoors during gardening season, and indoors all year long because they come with two grow lights.

Brent Andressen, agriculture education coordinator with Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development says it's a great teaching and learning opportunity for school students who don't get to see a full crop cycle.

"With our school cycle kids get out in June and they are back in September and they miss the whole summer time," he explains. "So with lights they can plant in November and be harvesting tomatoes in April or May and that's something they can't do without lights and proper growing facilities."

Using funding from Growing Forward, Andressen organized a three-year pilot project with 20 schools participating, from kindergarten to Grade 12 classes.
