Remember that CP train that derailed just north of Airdrie a couple of summer's ago?

Yesterday, the Transportation Safety Board released its final report. CCTv of the last 3 trains over the site, including the derailed train, captured the sound of an irregularity on the west rail. Twelve pieces of broken rail were recovered and sent to CP's Test Department in Winnipeg to be examined. There was no evidence of any material or manufacturing defects in the rail.

Happily, none of the anhydrous ammonia the train was carrying leaked and no one was hurt or aversely affected by the accident. Residents in the north end of Airdrie were provided with instructions on what to do if there was a leak as a precautionary measure.

The report is available on the TSB website at www.bst-tsb.gc.ca.
