Environment and Climate Change Canada's thunderstorm watch for Airdrie has ended.

Earlier on Friday afternoon, Airdrie and surrounding areas were placed under a thunderstorm watch.

"Thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and move slowly eastward through the day. Some thunderstorms may produce strong wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain. Huge hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury," Environment Canada stated previously.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable to develop thunderstorms that could produce large hail, damaging winds, and torrential rainfall.
