Rocky View Schools and facilities will be open for classes on Monday, September 19. According to RVS, it will be up to schools to determine how they will be recognizing the provincial day of mourning.

Superintendent of Schools for RVS, Greg Luterbach, thanked families for their patience as the school board awaited direction from the province on how Alberta would be recognizing the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Yesterday, on September 14, the provincial government announced that instead of a provincial statutory holiday, it would be opting for a day of mourning. While most will be working, the government did encourage employers to make accommodations for employees to either attend the ceremony at the legislature or otherwise mark the occasion of Queen Elizabeth's funeral.

Federal employees and those in federally regulated industries, including banks, airlines and Crown corporations will have the day off on Monday, September 19.
