With the construction ramping up on the 40th Avenue Overpass Project, some road closures are on their way for Highway 2. Today, there will be a lane closure Southbound on the QEII south of Yankee Valley Blvd. This lane closure starts from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. and speed is reduced in the area. However, next week there will also be more significant lane closures.

Adam Carroll, Project Manager with the Capital Projects Office for the City of Airdrie, says the first road closure will start before the end of the month.

“Starting April 25, northbound QEII will be closed from 9 pm until 5 am. In order for the contractor to install the concrete girders that span the northbound lanes of QEII, we will detour traffic northbound through the ditch on a paved road around the project site. Then, they'll be detoured back onto the northbound lanes once they've gone around the work area.”

The first closure will span from April 25 until May 9.

“There will be a subsequent closure for the southbound QEII lanes as we install those girders as well. These closures will happen back-to-back,” says Carroll.

Starting May 9 until May 23, QEII southbound will be closed from the same hours of 9 pm until 5 am.

Carroll asks all the travellers going through the area to please slow down and abide by the speed reduction that is in place, which is 80 kilometers, creating a much safer zone for the workers and for the vehicles.
