The first-ever Airdrie Football Academy saw 78 kids further their skills in football over the summer.

The camp was created by Chris Glass, who is also the Head Coach of the George McDougall Mustangs to help athletes garner and work on more specific skills right before the high school football season, which last Thursday.

"At the camp, we had quarterbacks, defensive backs, receivers, offensive line and defensive line."

The camp gathered twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday) for five weeks straight (July-August), with no contact, just all skills.

With over 70 kids showing up for the camp, Glass is really happy with how it went.

"What we expected to have versus what happened blew our expectations away. The competitive level from the kids at the end was just tremendous, the growth the players made was just great. I think everybody had a tremendous amount of fun."

The camp saw kids from all three Rocky View High Schools in Airdrie, and plenty from surrounding communities like Calgary. Already looking forward to next year's camp, Glass is already planning and trying to find ways to make it even better.

"Nice thing for me is going into the Rocky View season, I'm going to be able to see players on other teams that came to the camp use some of the skills we taught them. I'm looking forward to seeing those kids ball out, and give me a little bit of trash talk as they run by me on the sidelines."

With the high school football season officially here, Glass is really excited about his Mustangs and can't wait to start playing games.

"Last year, we really solidified ourselves as one of the gatekeepers and Rockyview, this year, we're hoping to continue that path and to go a little bit further in the playoffs."
