With an impressive win over the Cochrane Cobras in the RVS (Rocky View Schools) Championship game, the George McDougall Mustangs have cracked Canada Football Club’s top 10 list for the best small school rankings in Canada.

Chris Glass, the Head Coach for the George McDougall Mustangs is more than excited to see the team on this list.

“It’s pretty exciting for our team; to see your name in that and  [it's] a pretty nice recognition of the hard work that has gone into the past couple of years of building this team.”

According to Glass, the highest the Mustangs have been ranked before was 13 and that was a couple of weeks ago.

“This helps our school get seen by recruiters and people who are looking to find the best players at the next level.”

Glass mentioned the general attitude at practice was that the team was happy about it, but there is still work that has to be done since the Mustangs are taking on the number one ranked team on that list, the Holy Trinity Academy Knights of Okotoks, in their do or die provincial playoff matchup.

“The guys are still focused on the big prize, which is making sure that we punch our ticket to November 26 provincial championship game.”

Glass went on to talk about some of the keys to the game to try and beat the Knights.

“They're a really big physical football team and they do a lot of things. They've got a quarterback that is quite good. The running backs are pretty solid. But we like what we've been able to do this year. The big thing for me is our team seems to rise to the occasion, the bigger the game, the bigger our team has been. And I have no doubt on Friday that they're going to match the level of intensity, speed and effort needed to rise to this challenge.”

The game will take place this Friday, 4 p.m. at Bow Valley High School in Cochrane.
