Last weekend the George McDougall Mustangs proved that they are still the top team in Airdrie, beating the W.H. Croxford Cavaliers in convincing fashion 35 - 7 in the semi-final.

Now the Mustangs look to do something that has been proven very tough in the past: beat the Cochrane Cobras for the Rocky View High School Football League Championship Final.

Christopher Glass, the Head Coach of the Mustangs mentioned the cobras have won the Rocky View championship for eight years in a row, and they are ready to end that streak this Friday.

“My first year coaching here, in 2014, we beat them in Cochrane in a very, very close game. For a while there, they kind of separated themselves from the pack, and were running away. We've been working really hard to catch up. Last year, we beat them in the regular season, and they beat us in overtime in the finals and put on two classic football games. I'm expecting nothing less on Friday.”

Glass went on to talk about some of the keys to the game to help the Mustangs win.

“We're going to have to limit their opportunities. They have a star wide receiver who I think is one of the best receivers in the province. He's going to get his touches, but we need to do our best to limit him from causing too much damage; we need to play our game, which is a very physical brand of football and we need to get a running game going.”

Glass finished off by saying it would mean so much to him to see this year's batch of seniors win this game.

The game will go Friday, October 28th at 4:00 pm at Cochrane's Spray Lakes Field.

In other RVS playoff football action, the W.H. Croxford Cavaliers will play in the Consolation semi-final on Friday afternoon at 3:30 pm on Ed Eggerer Field in Airdrie.  Croxford will face the Springbank Phoenix who won their first game of the year Friday, edging the Bow Valley Bobcats 18 - 15.

The other Consolation semi-final will see the Bert Church Chargers of Airdrie take on Chestermere.  That game goes Saturday, October 29th starting at 2:00 pm at Chestermere's Utley Field.
