At the most recent Airdrie city council meeting, the council unanimously passed a vote to bring an artificially turfed field to Airdrie.

Chris Glass, the President of the Airdrie field Turf Project Society talked about why it's important for Airdrie to get a turf field.

"In the province, lately, if you don't have turf, you're not going to be able to host provincial and national events and those bring huge economic development to our area. Every time we have an event that brings people in from the rest of the province, they spend money here in Airdrie."

This whole process started out with a feasibility study that was done by the society, this study prompted a closer look into the project by the city council according to Glass.

"From what I understand the next step is to go through the budgeting process with the city and to see if they can fit it into next year's budget. And if not, it would be pushed to 2024."

Glass mentioned with this turf field making its way to Airdrie any type of field sport can be played on it, he also said he wouldn't be surprised if more field turf sports come to Airdrie once the field is complete.

The field is to be built at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park in 2023 or 2024.

The society is looking for sponsors to help offset the cost of the project, if any businesses are interested they can visit their WEBSITE.
