The U18 AA Airdrie Lightning have just finished a successful season in the Alberta Female Hockey League (AFHL) and a big part of that success can be attributed to the play of goaltender Dakota Smith.

The Lightning finished in fourth place in the league's South Division.  Smith led the way with the top save percentage in the AFHL with 0.942.  During the regular season, Smith was tied for the league lead in shutouts with Hadley Stevens of the Calgary Fire White, with both recording four goose eggs,

Smith's stellar performance culminated with her being named Goaltender of the Year for the AFHL's U18 division.

After completing the regular season with 28 points, the Lightning headed into playoffs to face the Rocky Mountain Raiders who they knocked off in two straight in the best of three first found series.  That put them up against the powerful Calgary Fire White who proved too much to handle for the Lightning, defeating them in two games.

Calgary Fire White claimed the U18 Provincial title last Sunday (March 27) with a 3 - 1 win in the final over Sherwood Park.
