With quite the lightning storm that saw over 1700 lightning strikes in and around Airdrie last night, here at DiscoverAirdrie, we were wondering if we will see more storms throughout the week with today being just as rainy.

Sara Hoffman, a Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada talked about how much rain we saw over Monday night.

“So, areas to the southwest of the Calgary area saw up to 70 millimetres locally in thunderstorms, whereas Airdrie and the surrounding area saw about 10 to 20 millimetres.”

Hoffman went on to talk about what we can expect over the next few days.

“We're looking at still a few hit and miss showers to continue tonight and into tomorrow with the risk of a thunderstorm. Thursday, though, we're looking at a clearing trend. Temperatures are just a little bit higher than normal for this time of year with a daytime high of 21. We're forecasting right around that 23-to-24-degree mark for Thursday and Friday. Saturday evening. Saturday evening we're expecting a cold front to swing through the province, more showers Saturday, and a little bit of a cooling trend as well for the weekend.”

Taking a further look into the year, Hoffman says we can expect a La Nina winter which means it will be colder than usual.

This will be the third La Nina winter in a row.
