The Airdrie Irish are off to an impressive start to the 2022 Alberta Football League season.

Yesterday (June 11) the club trekked to Grande Prairie for a game against a new entry into the AFL this season, the Peace Country Cowboys and picked up their second win to start the season, with a final score of 46 - 6.  Airdrie built up a 33 - 6 lead at the half and then cruised to victory.

Not only did the Irish have to battle with the Cowboys on the field, they also had to contend with the elements with thunder and lighning roaring and rain pelting the CKC Field in Grande Prairie.

The Cowboys were formed in 2019 but their start in the AFL was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.  It was the first game of the season for Peace Country after having a bye in week one.   The Irish win comes on the heels of last week's home opener, a 33 - 21 win over the defending AFL champion Central Alberta Buccaneers.

Airdrie will take their 2-0 record into a home game this weekend with the Cold Lake Fighter Jets.  Kick-off goes Saturday at 2:30 at Ed Eggerer Field at Genesis Place.
