Mike Winther's stock heading into the 2012 NHL Entry Draft seems to rise that much more with every passing day.

Wednesday night, the former Airdrie Xtremer, playing for Team Cherry, managed to get on the score sheet in the tightest scoring game in the history of the CHL Top Prospects game since it started in 1996. A rebound of a Winther shot landed on the stick of defenceman Dillon Fournier of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies stick. Fournier potted his shot into the back of the net to tie the game at one goal a piece in the third period.

Team Orr would break the tie late in the game, on the powerplay, and walk away with a 2-1 win.

Winther was an injury replacement, with Tim Bozon of the Kamloops Blazers for Team Cherry, while Branden Troock of the Seattle Thunderbirds was added to Team Orr. All three found out they were playing in the game in mid January. Troock potted the game winner for Team Orr with 24 seconds left on the clock.

Winther may not make it to the first round this June, but he is making some waves lately, and getting some eyes on his play. Central Scouting released their mid-term rankings last month, and Winther was ranked 26th among North American skaters. Hockey's Future, a prospect driven website, has the Trochu native on their "Rising" list.

"ISS scouts have been high on Winther since his bantam days with the Airdrie Xtreme of the AMBHL," according to the website. "Winther has a very well rounded technical skill set and has displayed tremendous quickness around the puck as well as improving second efforts."

Keep your eye on the Prince Albert Raiders, because many of the NHL scouts are starting to see what the local product could do in one of their jersey. We'll find out where he gets drafted June 22-23 when the NHL holds their annual Entry Draft in Pittsburgh.
