A man who served on Crossfield Town Council from 1998 to 2001 before returning to become mayor for another three-year term beginning in 2004 has passed away.

James Michael (Mike) Budd died on April 30th at the age of 72.

Budd and his family made Crossfield their home for over 20 years and during that time he accomplished many things, including becoming the Grand Master of the Crossfield Masonic Lodge and serving on council for three years and then becoming mayor for three more. He was a British Navy veteran, joining the service when he was just 15 years old.

Budd travelled the world, eventually landing in Canada where he met his wife Diane and her two sons, Steve and Derek.  Another son, Chris, completed the pair's family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Crossfield Community Centre on Sunday, May 29th with doors opening at 1:00 and the celebration beginning at 2:00 pm.

In Budd's honour, flags at the Crossfield Community Centre will be flown at half-mast starting May 24th, until after the memorial services.
