Due to the current crisis in the hog industry, Farm Credit Canada is offering support to it's customers in the hog sector.

Producers are having problems paying for the cost of feed because of drought conditions in the United States.

Nearly 90 percent of the country's corn fields were affected and feed prices rose by as much as 50 percent.

Producers are also selling off their herds because they can't afford to feed them, which is resulting in an oversupply of pork.

The FCC is supporting the industry by providing payment schedule adjustments or deferrals to help customers through the short-term cash flow problem.

"We are here to help our costumers through this short term situation and we are going to work with them through good and bad times," said Barry Smith, FCC Vice-President of Western Ontario Operations.

FCC will be calling up hog customers, but customers are also encouraged to contact FCC with concerns at 1-888-332-3301.
