The southbound lanes of Hwy 2 between Didsbury and Carstairs were closed for six hours on the morning of Saturday, October 1, as a result of a fatal collision. Didsbury RCMP, Didsbury Fire and provincial EMS responded to the scene just before 4 am.

A black 2005 Chevy Impala had been traveling northbound on Highway 2, when the driver lost control, crossed into the centre median, went through the retaining cable fence, and struck a southbound silver 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis.

The 20 year old male driver of the Impala was transported to Calgary with non life threatening injuries. The 23 year old front seat passenger was not injured and released at scene, however, the 24 year old backseat passenger was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Disbury Hospital. All three men in the Impala are from Edmonton.

The 70 year old driver and his 65 year old passenger in the other vehicle were transported to the Didsbury Hospital with minor injuries and were later released. They are from Red Deer.
The accident is still under investigation and charges are pending against the driver of the Impala.
