A one-time member of the Airdrie Xtreme "AAA" Bantams has been selected by the Ottawa Senators in the first round of the 2018 NHL draft.

Jacob Bernard Docker of Canmore was selected 26th overall on Friday (June 22).  Docker played two seasons with the Xtreme in 2013-14 and 2014-15.  Last season, the 17-year-old was a member of the Alberta Junior Hockey League's Okotoks Oilers where he was named the Canadian Junior Hockey League's top defenceman while also being named the top defenceman in the AJHL.

For the upcoming season, Docker will join the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks, a Division One NCAA team.

The Senators had two first-round choices.  With the fourth overall pick, they chose Brady Tkachuk the son of former NHLer Keith and the brother of Matthew, a member of the Calgary Flames.   The Senators also held the 22nd pick but traded it to the New York Rangers for the 26th overall pick and the 48th pick.  With the 26th pick, the Senators took Docker who was rated 33rd among North American skaters by Central Scouting.

Another local product also went in this weekend's draft.  Docker's teammate with Okotoks, Austin Wong of Cochrane, was taken 215th overall in the seventh round of the draft by the Winnipeg Jets.

Wong is the brother of Tyler Wong who has once again signed with the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves.

The Buffalo Sabres held the overall first pick in the draft and selected Rasmus Dahlin from Sweden with it.  The Montreal Canadiens were the first Canadian team to select in the draft and chose another European, Jesperi Kokaniemi, a native of Finland.
