The Seniors and Persons with Disabilities Volunteer Open House is returning on May 13 at the Town & Country Centre. This event is also a joint celebration with Airdrie Meals on Wheels as it's their 40th anniversary.

Nina Nath, a Director with Volunteer Airdrie explained what this event is all about.

"This is to appreciate and thank the seniors and Airdronians with special needs as well as raise awareness for them."

The event will see different kinds of entertainment and vendors showcasing their items and services, door prize draws and some speeches including  Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown.

"We're expecting upwards of 250 to 300 guests. So, I would suggest people get their tickets sooner than later, even though they're free. It's important that you get your seats while you can," explained Dave Maffitt, Chair of the Volunteer Airdrie Society.

Nath and Maffitt went on to talk about why she feels this event is important.

"I find the seniors and special needs are the two groups that are put aside. These people have wisdom that others don't, and they can share their wisdom with everybody, they're very important," Nath Stated.

"We just went through a pandemic, where everybody stayed home and stopped volunteering." Maffitt carried on, "One of our priorities since then, is to try and re-engage the community, especially the seniors and people with special abilities to re-engage them in the community, get them back out, volunteering as well."

Volunteers are always welcome to help set up this event and help decorate the hall by contacting volunteer Airdrie.
