There was little hope that a missing child would turn up after a tragic house fire near Chestermere on the morning of Friday, October 14. Flames ripped through an acreage home shared by a family of five.

District Fire Chief Garth Rabel says human remains were found in the wreckage later in the day. Officials have now confirmed that Jordan Keeler, a grade 5 student at Our Lady of Wisdom Elementary School in Chestermere, was the victim.

Four of the family members — a man, woman and two small children — are in hospital in stable, non-life threatening condition. Neighbours called in the blaze about 4:20 am. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and there are no damage estimates at this time.

Dear Parents,

The Our Lady of Wisdom school community suffered the loss of one of its students early this morning. One of our Grade 5 students, Jordan Keeler, passed away as a result of a house fire.

Jordan's sister and cousin, who are also students at Our Lady of Wisdom, were injured in the fire and are being treated in hospital. Students, parents and staff are deeply saddened and Jordan's presence in our school will be greatly missed. Jordan was an outstanding friend and touched many lives in a positive way.

Our Lady of Wisdom wishes to support all students in this time of sadness. The Calgary Catholic School District's Critical Incident Response Team is available at our school to assist students and staff. Should there be a need for long-term support, our counseling department will continue to be available over the coming months.

As a Catholic school community we are responding in a supportive, faith-filled manner. The thoughts and prayers of staff, students and parents are with Jordan's family. We will continue to keep the family in our prayers.
