Former Airdrie Xtreme Dillon Dube scored halfway through the first period to stake the Calgary Flames to a 1 - 0 lead over the visiting Vegas Golden Knights at the Saddledome last night (August 14).

It all went downhill from there as the Golden Knights scored six straight in handing Calgary a 6 - 1 setback.  Vegas remained in the Western Conference wild-card race with the win.  The Knights trail Nashville and Dallas, who hold down the wild card positions, by two points.

For Dube from Cochrane, the goal was his 11th of the season.  The left-winger who was a second-round draft pick of the Flames in 2016 also has 14 assists for 25 points on the season.

The loss for the Flames stalled their effort to reach the century mark in points this season.  Calgary is 45-20-9 for 99 points, seven points ahead of Edmonton in the race for first in the Pacific Division.  Edmonton blanked the Nashville Predators 4 - 0 last night as former Flame  Mike Smith picked up the shutout.

William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault each had a goal and two assists for Vegas last night.

A sad note from the NHL last night.  Hall of farmer and New York Islander legend Mike Bossy passed away at the age of 65.  Bossy announced in October that he was being treated for lung cancer and succumbed to the illness.  As a member of the Islanders Bossy led the team to four straight Stanley Cups from 1980 to 1983.
