At their monthly meeting, Airdrie Housing Limited Managing Director, Shelley Sweet, says Airdrie Housing Limited has selected a design concept for their new below-market housing which is set to take over the hotel structure previously known as HomeStay Express near Genesis Place.
As the project is in the procurement phase, there is still little information known about it. Details that have been released thus far state the old hotel will be converted into housing with 38 suites.
The suites are broken down as:
-
25 studios
-
9 one-bedroom suites
-
4 barrier-free bedrooms
The rent for these suites will be around 20 per cent below the market range. According to Sweet, the addition of studio suites into the below-market stock will address a gap that currently exists in Airdrie.
Sweet mentioned if people are looking in attaining more affordable housing, either in this project of any of Airdrie Housing Limited’s rental units, they should visit Airdrie Housing or they can go to Community Links for an application form.
Airdrie Housing's financial qualifications are determined by the province’s Core Needs Income Threshold. For Airdrie, in 2022, those thresholds are:
-
Studio - $37,500
-
One-bedroom - $44,000
-
Two-bedroom - $54,000
-
Three-bedroom - $62,500
As long as an applicant's annual family income is below the above amounts, they qualify for applying.
Construction is expected to start later this summer with a completion date of early 2023. More details will be released when the procurement phase is completed.
