Calgary police caught a driver going 69 kilometres over the posted speed limit on 16 Avenue Northeast.

The posted speed limit in the area is 90 km/hour, while the driver was caught doing 159 km/hour. A mandatory court appearance has been ordered. 

According to Alberta Transportation, there are 1,165 convictions for speeding more than 50 km/h over the limit in the province each year.

"Drivers travelling at this speed are subject to a mandatory court appearance where a judge can impose penalties such as a fine or licence suspension."
