Now that snow has fallen on Airdrie, the City's Public Works Department has the task of working to keep our roads safe.

The department has a dedicated crew of 25 who work around the clock in snow plows, graders and front end loaders to keep snow off city streets while minimizing disruptions for residents. At the beginning of a snowfall, when snow starts to accumulate on the roads, crews begin plowing roads based on a priority system. During severe storms it is not uncommon to see all units operating on the priority one arterial roads until they are clear, then moving to priority two collector roads, followed by the priority three residential roads. It takes approximately five hours to clear the priority one routes.

Getting around in a vehicle is one thing, but we also need to make sure we make it as easy as possible for people to get around on foot - so don't forget to shovel your own sidewalks.
